Thirty-Seven Baseball Hall of Fame Members and more than 500 Major League Baseball players served in World War II.

  • 15 served in the Navy
  • 12 served in the Army
  • 6 served in the US Army Air Force
  • 3 served in US Marine Corps
  • 1 served in the Coast Guard

Kids and parents come join us for a Complimentary Baseball and Team Building Event at the US Naval Academy on August 25, 2018! It will be hosted by the US Naval Academy Baseball Team and led by Coach Kostacopoulos.

50% of the kids selected from the Baltimore area will be picked up at Camden Yards and 50% of the kids coming from the Washington, DC area will be picked up at a location TBD. The child or youth and one parent will be transported by bus to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. The event will begin with an 8 AM pickup and returned at the same location at 4 PM the same day. The essays will be requested from the young person with the following criteria:

The essays will be requested from All Veterans and their families who served particularly those currently in active duty, national guard and reserve military members with the following criteria:

Immediate Family member serving on active duty with Navy, Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard or currently serving in the National Guard or Reserve component.

Residing in one of the Following Areas – Baltimore or Washington DC

  • 10-16 years of age will be eligible
  • Maximum of 50 Best Essays from the Baltimore area.
  • Maximum of 50 Best Essays from the Washington D.C. area.
  • A detailed travel and time schedule will be published for the selected winners.
  • Eligible young person will be asked to research and submit an essay on one of the Hall of Famers who chose to serve their country during war time. The short essay should focus on the Four Pillars as laid out, and how the player embraced them, along with an overview of their service.

Essay should be based on lessons learned from this player, and how the writer can utilize these in their own life. The paper should explain how the young person was influenced by one of the 37 Hall of Famers who served in WWII and how they can utilize the lessons learned in overcoming their own adversities and challenges, through examples of duty and service during wartime.
