Hall of Famer Bob Feller returns to USS Alabama, talks Navy and baseball career

Bob Feller has two iconic personalities. Many are familiar with his reputation as a baseball Hall of Famer and one of the game’s hardest-throwing pitchers, and others are familiar with Feller’s military service.

At the prime of his baseball career, when he was on the verge of signing one of the top contracts of that time, Feller enlisted in the Navy on the day of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. He was assigned to the USS Alabama, where he served as a gunnery captain for 34 months, earning eight battle stars and five campaign ribbons.
